Totally confusing

The directions on how to use this tuner/metronome are inadequate. There isn't enough detail to tell you how to use it. They don't even tell us what all the numbers and symbols on the screen mean. How do you "select half-note flat tuning," for example, when they don't define or describe which symbol on the screen that refers to? Even my daughter's violin teacher can't figure out how to use this machine. I'm not sure I'd buy this again if I'd known we couldn't figure it out with the given instructions. It's probably a good machine, but to learn to use it requires a lot of time, effort, and money to drive back to the store to have someone there explain it. I'm disappointed.

- Q.
I play trombone and bought this tuner earlier today and have two questions. One, how do you turn the microphone on, my tuner cannot pick up any sound coming out of my horn. Two, my instrument is in the key of Bb, do I need to take that into account at all when tuning?
- A.
As long as you do not have the pickup plugged in, the mic should work just fine. Just make sure you are in the tuner setting.
Also, make sure you are in the Chromatic setting (should say at the bottom of the screen). The tuner will recognize the actual sounding note, so for non-transposing instruments (like your trombone is), it should read just fine. If you play a Bb and it says Bb, you are good to go. But if you play a Bb and it says C, then you have a transposing instrument and you'll need to take that into account.
If you run into any problems with the mic not working, send an email to our service address (service@westmusic.com) and we'll take care of you from there. - Q.
how do you use the metronome on Accent ACC-405 Metronome/Tuner (violin)
- A.
When you turn on the device, it automatically starts in tuning mode. There should be a button that is labeled M/T (4th down). Hold that button and it will switch to Metronome mode.
If you tap (not hold) the power button, it will start the metronome. The Music Note button will change the subdivision, and the up/down arrows will change the speed of the metronome. - Q.
How do you use the tuner?
- A.
There are 3 ways to use the tuner:
1. Use the built-in microphone (great for wind instruments)
2. Use the included clip-on microphone attachment (great for acoustic instruments like the violin and acoustic guitar).
3. If your instrument has an output jack (like all electric guitars, basses, and some acoustic guitars/instruments), you can connect using an instrument cable (like one you would connect to an amp with - not included).
There are several settings available to help guide you on tuning. There is Chromatic, Guitar, Bass, and Violin. If you are on the Guitar, Bass or Violin, the tuner will only pick up certain pitches. If you are in Chromatic, it will pick up all pitches.
Tune to the correct pitch (note name matches and the meter handle is in the middle).
