Hi
I'm a ukulele player and also an elementary music teacher who's looking to start a ukulele program at my school.
I was wondering if this was an appropriate model for schools, I was also looking at the Lanikai Kohala Soprano.
Do you offer any packages - gig bag, pitch pipe in the $50 range? - A.
This uke is okay, but I feel there are better ukes out there for not much more money.
The Lanikai Kohala Soprano has been discontinued and is replaced by the Kohala Kine'O Series KO-SP Soprano Ukulele...however, in all reality, it's virtually the same as the Hohner Kids, but uses a different wood.
You'll find the tuners are not the best and would definitely need a change of strings. These are good ukes for parents who wants to get something cute for their kids or schools who are very strapped for cash. But if you are picky/know what to look for, you probably won't be satisfied with them.
I would suggest looking at possibly the Kala Makala MK-S (not the dolphin bridge ones, although they are okay). They seem to hold up a bit better, although they would need a change of strings as well. However, if you are able to, the Kala KA line is far better and comes with better strings and tuners.
As for packages, we do have a few available on our website, but the lowest priced one we have is the Kala MK-S package that includes a gig bag and pitch pipe for $59.50:
