Community Drum Ensemble Vol. 1
By Dancing Drum (Steve Campbell and Lindsay Rust)
Book, CD and DVD
73 pages
Grades 4 and up

Community Drum Ensemble (CDE) is a performance-based music program designed to engage students in the excitement of ensemble drumming.  Appropriate for in-school and after-school drum programs, CDE creates an outreach forum for music teachers to unite students of different levels of musical experience through the practice and performance of drum rhythms inspired by music from around the world. CDE builds student community through learning, playing and performing together as an ensemble.

Volume 1 contains six classroom-ready arrangements for djembes, djun-djuns and small percussion, a mix of original and traditional rhythms inspired by music from West Africa, the Caribbean and the USA. Each arrangement includes Dancing Drum's Rhythm Phonics, standard notations, photos, maps and descriptions of the rhythms' origins.

This comprehensive book, CD and DVD package also provide invaluable insight into how to run a CDE program, giving teachers the leadership tools they need to direct a CDE program at their school or add a new approach to leading an established drum ensemble program.

The instructional CD and DVD contain audio and video examples of all individual drum and hand percussion parts, in additional to full ensemble performances for each arrangement.
