Cedar Falls Minimusic Classes Set for September!

Instructor Naomi Palmer and West Music Cedar Falls announce Minimusic set to start in September!

I’m starting to see the signs of fall: school supplies in the stores, birds gathering together, fields are just starting to get the touch of color before they turn to the autumn rainbow and Minimusic pre-registrations are starting. Last year was our first time of offering Minimusic and it was a huge success. At graduation ceremony held here in the store, I was impressed what these young people had learned over the previous year.

For those who haven’t heard of Minimusic, it’s a program designed for children 4 to 6 as an introduction to music. Students learn about instrument families, basic note reading, rhythm, and introductory theory.

What the students experience is FUN. They know they're learning about music, but the material is presented in interactive activities that keep the students interested and wanting to learn more. Classes are once-a-week for an hour, and activities include singing, dancing, coloring, memory games, musical bingo, stories, flash cards and much more! Students have a graduation ceremony at the end of the school year (June) where they can show family and friends what they have learned.

One of the key benefits of Minimusic is it’s a great way to learn about different instruments and find which one a child is most interested in taking up in private lessons. Minimusic gives a solid foundation to start private lessons and was originally designed to jump start learning by having basic concepts understood before they are applied to the instrument. After Minimusic graduation, children can easily begin private lessons on piano, guitar, curved head flute, kinderclari, percussion, violin, viola, or cello.

Another great point of this program is that students do not need to practice at home, which means parents are not required to purchase an instrument. Student learning in Minimusic will be reinforcing math, language, and social skills with interactive activities. Students learn music appreciation, and in a digital world, they get the chance to hear, feel, and make music acoustically which is something that CD’s, MP3’s, and TV’s can no longer do.
