I wanted to give recorder teachers a musical tool for connecting with the topic of the environment. The nature sounds are recorded in stereo and provide a sonic backdrop for each piece. A few of the nature sounds are home grown: the rain in The Rain Forest includes rain from outside my studio, and the crickets and cicadas in Around the Camp Fire were recorded in my back yard. My favorite sound, however, is the wind in Dakota Winds. My wife is from North Dakota and we have experienced the beautiful sound and feel of the prairie winds many times.
The creation of Natural Elements was both challenging and enjoyable. It’s my 17th recorder music publication and I want to thank Steve West, Judy Pine and all of the great people at West Music for their wonderful support.
