Needing replacement drumheads? Enter our Ugly/Destroyed Drumhead Contest!

Posted on 11th July 2011 by Jordan Wagner

WHAT:

Replacing drum heads can be an an expensive prospect, albiet a necessary one. While guitarists only have to shell out a few bucks to replace their strings, drummers usually have to plunk down a sizable chunk of cash to keep their drumheads in tip-top condition. We realize this at West Music, which is why we're offering to help.

Starting July 11th, we're holding our first Ugly/Destroyed Drumhead Contest! It's really easy to enter, too. All you have to do is Like us on Facebook, and post pictures of your worn and demolished drumheads. After August 1st, single winners from each store location will be chosen to receive an Evans American Upgrade Packs (valued at over $100 each).

Includes:

  • Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumheads - 12", 13", and 16" (2-ply, powerful, fat focused attack, great for live or studio use)
  • Evans G1 Coated Batter Drumhead - 14" (coated, moderate attack, very warm tone, moderate sustain, medium soft feel, moderately durable)
  • Evans EMAD Clear Batter Head - 22" (comes with 2 damping rings,  offers tremendous dynamic range, allows quick, easy adjustments without having to remove the head from the drum)

How do I know if my drumheads need replacing?

Just because your drumheads haven't developed gaping holes or practically fallen off the drums doesn't mean that they don't need replacement. By their very nature, drumheads need to be replaced regularly to keep their tuning stability, volume and tone from the dregs of degredatation. We've developed a handy guide to determine if your drumheads suffer from DHS, otherwise known as "Dead Head Syndrome."

Top 10 Symptoms of DHS (Dead Head Syndrome)

  • Your drum cases sound better than the drum
  • Your snare drum is beginning to resemble a soup bowl
  • Your coated heads are now clear
  • Duct tape has met its match
  • The drumhead box has better tone
  • Bass drum is mistaken as a recycling bin
  • Your sofa cushion has more rebound than your snare head
  • You begin to think fondly of your days playing on 5-gallon paint buckets
  • Rack tom head begins to resemble the lunar surface
  • Other members of the band use your floor tom as a card table
