Jonnie Cohen teaches acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass and music theory at West Music Coralville. His background includes 11 years of private guitar and bass lessons, and he started playing piano and singing at a young age. He also has played trumpet for eight years, and is a multi-instrumentalist. He's also a proud Eagle Scout.

Jonnie also has had extensive experience playing live in several musical styles, including pit band, school ensembles including jazz and classical, funk, african soukous, reggae, R'nB, big band jazz, Brazillian choro, and folk. When he's not playing live or teaching, he works at a fitness center with a rock climbing wall and the local Outdoor Rental Center. He also holds a landscaping position.

He's currently in a guitar ensemble and a Latin jazz ensemble, both through the University Of Iowa, in addition to being involved in many musical projects in and outside of Iowa City. His main Project is the Subterranean All Stars, a soul/jazz/funk band that he plays lead guitar, bass and vocals in.

When he's not immersed in the local music scene, Jonnie enjoys writing, creating art and rock climibing. In his spare time, he volunteers at Big Brother Big Sister and United Action for Youth, teaching music at both.
