Matt Bernemann was born in Iowa City and raised in Grinnell. He has been a performing musician for over 20 years. He began his percussion studies in grade school, and continued through his college years, majoring in percussion performance at the University of Iowa. While at the U of I, Matt had the fortune to study with Prof. Tom Davis, head of the percussion department and John Rapson, head of the Jazz studies department.
In addition to his formal music education, Matt has studied with such notable Jazz musicians as New York drummer Matt Wilson. Matt keeps a busy teaching and performing schedule and can be heard in local groups such as Shade of Blue, Inception, and The Saul Lubaroff Trio.
