Trick or Treat!
Halloween is such a fun time of year, and that even extends to music therapy! I love to decorate my tambourine, sing about ghosts, and enjoy spooky glow-in-the-dark egg shakers. One of the interventions that has been a big hit for me, is "Somebody's Knocking on My Door". This familiar song can be a fun way to sing about costumes. It can help some clients to brainstorm costume ideas or share what they (or their family members) will be wearing this year. It can be a nice way to process Halloween after the fact. And, I think it's a great way to prepare people for what they will be seeing during trick-or-treat. (It could be frightening for some people to have monsters knocking on their door.) See how your clients enjoy this simple song this year!
I use the woodblock and sing:
Somebody's knocking on my door (knock three times with the words 'trick or treat') Somebody's knocking on my door (xxx) Oh, (costume here) I hear you knocking. Somebody's knocking on my door (xxx)
