Michael Canning Cedar Falls Recording Clinic Recap
By John Waltz
11/21/2011 1:59:00 PM

Our Recording Clinic with Michael Canning was a success with 28 in attendance.  No one left and it lasted 2 hours (our largest and longest to date).  Lewis Hunt got released from the hospital to attend the clinic.  He had a heart attack two days before.  3 bands from the area that we've sold StudioLive mixers to got a lot of good information and praised the product.  Steve Mark (cedar Falls band director) was very happy to be invited.  An older gentleman said it was by far the best one he has attended (been to 3).  St. Timmothy's U. M. in Cedar Falls will be purchasing one from us in the future.

I had a lot of "wish we could make it" replies from email and face book invites.  Church people have activities on Wednesdays unfortunately this was the only date we could get.  I feel we would have had quite a few more if it was on a Tuesday.  Very happy with the turnout we got.

The band played well and was happy to be a part of the whole process.   Michael created suspense by recording them at once then playing back only one instrument at a time.  As he played the kick drum back,  we could all hear him modify the sound.  After tweaking all the tracks, he brought up the full mix and it sounded pretty good!   Michael definitely showed the benefits of owning a digital mixing console, how fun it is to record and how easy it is to do.

Big "Thank You" to the CEDAR FALLS Staff for everything: setting up and taking down chairs, conducting business around the event, toilet paper in the bathrooms, adjusting the lights, taking the RSVPs, talking it up with our customers, ..everything.

Looking forward to an even bigger one next year!

Oh yeah,  Thank You MR. CANNING!

StudioLive Digital Mixer Quick Review
By John Waltz
10/8/2010 3:57:00 AM

When Presonus came out with the StudioLive Digital Mixer last year, sure I was interested.  2K  for a 16 channel all digital mixer, compressors and limiters on each (!!) channel, built-in effects, Firewire recording, etc.  But it wasn’t until the rep came around to our store with one that I really got excited.

Cut to the chase.  If you know somewhat of how an analog mixing console works, this new digital mixer is a PIECE OF CAKE to operate.  Things I like?  Variable (instead of a fixed button) high-pass filter so you can dial out the proximity effect of a vocal mic.  Or get the kick drum rumble out of that bottem-miked snare.  The control surface (faders, buttons, indicators) is professional to the eye and touch.  It is dead quiet.  Crank up some tunes on the PA and then hit “Mute.”  You will be stunned!

Stop into the store and let Scott or I show it off for you!
