Keep Your Young Musician Playing This Summer!

To return...or not to return? This a very puzzling question for a lot of parents of beginner string players.

Although it's very tempting to return the instrument to save money, it's highly recommended to encourage your beginners to play as much as possible over the summer, too. It's mind-boggling how many of their hard-earned new skills will vanish over a short period of time if not practiced a little each week! In some cases it could be more than 50%...wow!

One great idea for enticing them is to stop in and pick-up a fun book of songs by their favorite artists...or maybe movie songs! It's like putting sugar in the medicine. It's so fun, they don't even realize they're practicing! It can also be fun to schedule a summer recital for family or friends, so they can show off their new talent, or maybe even have a talent show in the neighborhood!

On the practical side (for the parents) most of your monthly lease payments are automatically accumulating for you to eventually put toward their own instrument when they are ready for a full size one. It can be a substantial dollar loss if you return, because it will begin all over at zero in the fall!

So, support your young musician at home by keeping them involved and moving their skills continually forward! Have a happy, musical summer!
