Christina is one of our very talented cello teachers here at West Music. She taught at Manning Music in Topeka, KS for four years, West Music Coralville for six years, and has recently started teaching at West Music Marion. Her favorite thing about teaching is playing music with her students.
Christina began her musical journey at the age of 10, first on piano, moving to cello a couple months later. She has a Bachelor's of Music, Cello Performance with a minor in vocal performance from Washburn University and a Master's of Arts, Cello Performance from the University of Iowa.
Along with teaching, Christina is also our Merchandise Manager for Orchestra and Orchestral Product Consultant at West Music, and is the event coordinator for the 411th Engineer Co. Family Readiness Group.
Christina is a member of several ensembles, including the Accipiter String Quartet, South East Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Ottumwa Symphony, Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, and several community theater pit orchestras.
In her free time she enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, running, billiards, cats and dogs -- specifically her adorable furry ones!
Christina says one of her most interesting musical/educational experiences happened in 2008 when she was touring as principal cellist with the Washburn Symphony Orchestra around Honduras. "It was such a humbling experience to travel around a third world country and see their love and appreciation of music. We also visited two of their children’s music schools and worked with the students. It was amazing to see the immense talent these students had when they had practically nothing to work with. It made me so grateful for what I had and inspired me to work even harder for my musical career."
