Deb Singer is a guitar instructor at West Music Coralville. She holds an M.A. in Music Theory from The University of Iowa, and has served as a T.A. in music theory and musicology classes. Additionally, Deb holds B.A. degrees is Religious Studies (Trinity College, CT) and Dance (U of Iowa), with additional classes in dance, yoga, and T’ai Chi at Naropa Institute, Boulder, CO. She holds an M.S.W. from The University of Iowa, and has served as a school social worker and recreational program supervisor, as well as working with children and adults with special needs through music and dance.
Deb is a founding member of, and performs as the guitarist in the world-music sextet, Kol Shira (Voice of Song). She has recently become involved with a family folk choir which is forming in the Iowa City area.
Deb loves to teach, and spends her mornings teaching creative movement and music at area preschools and for the Iowa City Recreation Division through her business, Spirit in Motion. In her spare time, Deb enjoys running, biking, and swimming, practicing yoga, baking bread, and spending time with her family in Iowa, Colorado, and Connecticut.
This past summer, Deb taught an Adult Group Class at West Music. She also performed children’s music at “Kid’s Day at the Market” and a “Party in the Park”, both sponsored by the Iowa City Dept. of Parks and Recreation. She is currently pursuing a B.A. in French at The University of Iowa. She and her husband hope to visit France this summer.
