Jon Wilson is a percussion instructor here at West Music Marion. He teaches drum set, mallet and other concert percussion, marching percussion, and Cajon.  Jon taught at Dave Phillips Music in New Jersey from 1995 -2000, Music Go Round from 2000-2013 and West Music in Coralville and Marion since 2008. Jon is also a percussion instructor at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids.  He started playing music on drums, piano, and guitar in elementary and middle school. Jon has earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Jon has performed with the Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet, Heroes For The Weirdos, Craig Erickson, The Mayflies, and Winterland. In his spare time Jon enjoys running, cycling, yoga, and vegetarian cooking. Recently he has played drums for recordings with Billy Lee Janey and Craig Erickson.  He says his favorite thing about teaching is “recognizing my students’ achievements and hard work when they have done their best at something”. He says his most interesting musical/educational experience is,” Every day I get to share the power and JOY of music with people, and that is a beautiful thing”. He also says, “Music isn’t a race. It’s a parade and everyone can join!”
