Megan Bartlett is our newest woodwind instructor! Her focus is primarily on clarinet and saxophone, but don’t let that fool you. Megan can pick up any instrument in our band department and play it, including bassoon, which she taught herself to play this summer.
Megan began playing piano in kindergarten and took lessons for the next 12 years. She continues playing to this day and often plays accompaniment for her students. She began playing sax in the 4th grade and by the time she was a junior in high school had concluded that she wanted to be a band director, which she has accomplished. She is currently the 6th grade band director in the Rock Island School district.
One of her most memorable moments was performing in Carnegie Hall with the University of Iowa Symphony Band in 2008!
Some Megan fun facts that she offered up:
- She has had over twenty teeth pulled and extensive dental work performed over the years because of her small mouth. Looking at her now, you would NEVER know that.
- She claims that she gets mistaken for the “Wendy’s girl” all the time by her students. Must be the vibrant red hair. And I have noticed a faint smell of cheeseburgers when she walks by…coincidence?
- Her favorite food is sushi.
Megan plans on teaching for the rest of her days. What a welcome addition to our conservatory!
