Quad Cities Musician of the Month, June 2013 - Mackenzie Noppe

Mackenzie NoppeMackenzie Noppe - Drums and Guitar

Mackenzie is the youngest multi-instrumentalist we have ever met. Now 11 years old, she plays drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, sings, and just picked up a saxophone for school band. She even sang lead vocals while playing drum set when she performed Walk This Way by Aerosmith at a Redstone Rumble concert.

Mackenzie has 3 teachers; Wes Weeber and Greg Collister for drum set and Andy Cowan for guitar. Her current favorite is drum set because it is the easiest for her to play.

So far, she notes her best musical achievements as when she got to play along side her idol, Wes Weeber when she performed Play That Funky Music on drum set at a Parking Lot Jam concert and when she did a drum duet with Greg Collister. She also has been in shows at the Center for Living Arts since she was 5 years old, attends events at the River Music Experience once a month, is a member of the Quad City Flash Mob Troupe, has been doing summer Rock Camp programs since she was 8, Blues Camp, and don’t forget dancing, cheerleading, gymnastics, drawing, painting, crafts, cooking, and swimming too.

Coming from a very musical family, her Uncle Jim played bass, guitar, keyboard, and sings, her mom played flute, her grandmother played saxophone, and her grandfather played keyboard, bass, and guitar.

At Parking Lot Jam this year, Mackenzie will play drums on Bombtrack by Rage Against the Machine, and play guitar and sing on Blown Away. Keep an eye on this budding musician because who knows what will be next on her list!
