Our March featured teacher is Jim Harker. Jim comes from a very musical family. His grandfather played drums and his father played piano. Jim got his start drumming as a kid by coming up with his own beats on a toy drum set. Growing up, he took lessons from James Weir and loved marching in the drum line at United Township. In his lessons, Jim likes to use a wide variety of music, combining rudiments with ethnic styles, complex time signatures, and double bass and transferring it to drum set playing. Currently, he plays drums in the band Secret Squirrel as well as a new, un-named project. Jim enjoys teaching because of the satisfaction he gets by giving knowledge to a student and making a difference in someone’s life. Find Jim on Monday and Wednesday evenings at West Music!
