Introducing Marjorie Shearer-clarinet teacher offering Wednesday evening lessons at West Music Coralville
Marjorie began playing the clarinet at the age of 11. Growing up in Central Florida, she studied with the principal clarinetist of the Orlando Philharmonic, who remains the most influential person in shaping her musical career.
Marjorie earned a Bachelors degree in Music Performance from University of Florida, a Masters degree in Music Performance from Northern Illinois University, and is currently pursuing her education further at the University of Iowa where she is a Doctoral candidate and the graduate teaching assistant. She also works at Oaknoll as a recreation aide.
As a teacher, Marjorie accepts students of all ages and talent levels, from young beginners to more experienced collegiate players. She believes the key component to teaching success is creating interest and enthusiasm in a student while establishing and maintaining a strong foundation of basic techniques.
