Susan HaytonSusan grew up in northern California and migrated to the Midwest in 1983, finally settling in the Des Moines area in 1989. Susan has been teaching piano in the Des Moines area since 1990. Prior to that, she earned a B.A. in Music and Christian Education Certification from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska. Her training in both music and education has given her special insights into teaching students of all ages.

Susan specializes in Clavinova Technology and worked as a Yamaha consultant training piano teachers and retailers in the use and advantages of teaching with Clavinovas. She wrote and published the User-Friendly Manual for three series of the Clavinova CVP models. In 2002 she was selected to teach group lessons by Crystal Cruise lines. She taught hundreds of students from all over the world on eight cruises, totaling nearly four months at sea.   Susan also developed a unique piano curriculum called “KEYS Piano Instruction”; group piano lessons for kindergarten through high school.

Susan teaches both individual and group lessons and works well with all ages from kindergarten through adult. Susan also works part-time at Hy-Vee and does volunteer work for the poor/homeless, teaches Sunday school, reading, word and math puzzles. Whew! Busy lady! Susan has made it her goal to teach piano in such a way that her students would love their lessons and be motivated to continue for years. That has continued to be her goal in over 25 years of piano teaching. She looks forward to each lesson with each student. Every lesson is individualized to the needs of each student and his/her learning pattern. Susan looks forward to meeting new students and helping them fall in love with the piano as she has.
