Janet is a professional performer, accompanist, and piano instructor with more than 20 years of experience. She teaches the piano in a variety of styles according to her students’ needs and interests.
Janet grew up in Michigan where she attended Wayne State University as a theatre major. She later attended Oakland University for Music. Janet started giving piano lessons in Michigan fulltime in 1989 until she moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1993 where she has been exclusively teaching piano ever since. Janet is an active member of MTNA, IMTA, Des Moines Music Teachers Association, National Federation of Music Clubs, IFMC (serving as Festival Chairman), and the Des Moines Federated Teachers Club. She has been a regular judge for NFMC and the Des Moines Public Schools piano festivals, in which many of her students also participate.
Since living in Des Moines she has been invited to perform at 801 Grand and Chocolaterie Stam, as well as private parties, churches, weddings, and funerals. Janet’s hobbies and interests include being a part of the Beautification Committee of NOG (North of Grand) Neighborhood Association and gardening flowers and vegetables. She also enjoys baking bread and is frequently an exhibitor at the Iowa State Fair where she won multiple blue ribbons including being the “over all” winner in foods.
