Children's literature can be a wonderful addition to a music class!

Children love a good story and enjoy looking at the illustrations and reading the words. Use books as a catalyst for teaching and exploring music and movement concepts. Create rhythmic or melodic patterns using the words from the stories. Many stories provide opportunities to dramatize and/or create sound effects – vocal or instrumental.

Gameplan curriculum and Creative Bits with Children's Lit use children's books in Orff process lessons. The Mallet Madness series incorporates children's books in lessons. The First Steps in Music picture books are illustrations of American folksongs.
