Have you wanted to add a deeper bass sound to your Orff ensemble? Have you wanted to add the octave below your bass xylophone or bass metallophone? Well, we have just the solution for you!

For the month of September, we are featuring a "Buy 2 Bars, Get 1 Sonor Bass Bar FREE."

Here are the specifics of the special:

Buy a fiberglass C and F bass bar and you'll receive a G bass bar for free. This is a savings of $315.00.

These bass bars are so resonate and add a lot of depth to the Orff ensemble. Plus with this special offer, your students will be able to play the tonic note in three keys: C, F, and G. Or use the C & G to outline the tonic and fifth of the arrangement.

If you're a teacher or caregiver for young children, the Sonor SG child's glockenspiel is built with you in mind.

This glockenspiel is inviting to young children due to its size and how easy it is to play. The glock is approximately 3-1/4" deep and 12-1/4" long and 1-1/2" high.

Teachers will like it for multiple reasons. The width of the bars are 1/4" with the note name stamped in the middle of the bar as a visual reminder of how the musical alphabet works. Another feature is the built-in holders for the mallets and built-in storage slots for the F# and Bb bars when not in use. These are easy enough to use that your students can help pick up at the end of the class by sliding the mallets into the slots or place the F# and Bb bars back home on the left end of the frame.

Looking for a great beginning soprano recorder method book for your classroom? Well My Recorder Book by Sandy Feldstein is just the ticket for you.

This book was revised in 2006 with many new features that address the National Standards for Arts Education, which can be easily achieved by your students with your students. Let's talk about the basics of this book...

This beginning book starts out with a photo of the full recorder family from soprano to the bass. Included are a basic history of the recorder and information on how to care for recorders will help to start your student out on the right track. As we move into to the first notes, only one note is featured at a time with a visual presentation of how to hold and play the recorder. This helps your students to focus on the task at hand and lay the foundation needed.

CBS Sunday Morning segment shows the impact from singing in a chorus. Chorus members are more involved in community and charity, and chorus students demonstrate higher academic achievement and self esteem.

Samford Photo

Every summer West Music supplies various teacher training programs across the US with Orff instruments, percussion, drums, recorders, and teaching materials to be used and purchased at those courses. I thought it would be fun to show photos from those courses as they happen across the country, too.

Samford PhotoHere’s the first of hopefully many photo articles about these courses for you to enjoy and get a glimmer of what happens at these courses.

The first one I’ll feature today is the Orff Schulwerk Level from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. This course ran from June 1 – 12, 2009 with 17 students with several who had just graduated from College.
