Summer is the time for lawn chairs and concerts. West Music hosts an outdoor music event every year. In previous years, it’s been a Battle of the Bands. This year we took a different route and hosted Weststock.

Weststock is a concert consisting of local area bands who have been together for at least 6 months. These are not professional bands, not even real gigging bands for the most part. But they are hard-working players who want to share their talent and their music. Two of the bands got together through the Weekend Warrior programs in Coralville and Marion.

Most of the bands covered tunes, but there were a few originals. The drive, talent and sincerity of these people is amazing! The support from their families, friends and teachers is apparent, as well. There is nothing more fun and exciting than getting up on that stage with your band members, but nothing will make a new musician or new band more nervous either.

Each of the bands, no matter how seasoned, felt the excitement and buzz of performing outdoors for friends and family. Family members consistently thanked us for making events like this possible and live music a reality for the musicians in their families.

Supporting live music and making it possible for anyone of any age to live out their musical dreams is what we are all about. “I’d like to teach the world to sing…”
