Music Therapy Services at West Music has recently been accepted by the American Music Therapy Association as a National Roster internship site. This means that we can now accept interns from all accredited music therapy programs throughout the world. The internship serves a number of populations including adults and children with developmental disabilities, adults with dementia, well elderly, and individuals in hospice. Interns would gain experience working with a variety of populations in a contractual music therapy setting. Opportunities to lead 1:1 sessions, small groups (3-8) and large groups (up to 30) will be provided.
The intern will design, market, implement and evaluate a new group of their choice. Interns will need to travel and must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license. They will also need to provide their own guitar. Reimbursement will be provided for use of a personal vehicle when seeing clients. Other opportunities include being able to observe and work with several music therapists, marketing and business training, fine-tuning your resume and a mock interview. Housing, meals, or a stipend are not provided. A potential intern must have functional piano skills, functional guitar skills (able to play I, ii, IV, V in C, D, E, G, and A; able to transpose and tune by ear), functional guitar skills to be demonstrated in an interview, a basic understanding of principles of therapy (including behavior modification), and a basic understanding of music therapy research and literature. Those interested in the internship please contact Kyle Wilhelm, MA, MT-BC at the following address: West Music C/o Kyle Wilhelm 1398 Twixt Town Road Marion, IA 52302 319.389.4074
