Recently, West Music and the University of Iowa piano department hosted our 7th annual Steinway Piano Extravaganza.
This event is all about celebrating the piano by recognizing our area teachers, students, and their parents. The theme this year centered around the award winning documentary Note by Note, which details the building of a Steinway model D nine-foot concert grand from the forest floor to Carnegie Hall. This film was shown to a very receptive audience, and joining us was the film's director and producer, Ben Niles.
Ben offered intuitive and entertaining narratives before and after the screening and helped to bring the film to an even more personal level for us. Also with us at this event was perhaps the real star of the show, Steinway #L1037, the actual concert grand we saw being built in the film! Dr. Uriel Tsachor from the University performed a beautiful recital and all were encouraged to play or at least touch this special piano. Other events presented during the Extravaganza included a master class for four talented area high school students conducted by Dr. Tsachor, Dr. Lecuona, Dr. Nosikova, and Dr. Huckleberry from the University of Iowa. We also hosted two piano recitals for our area students of all ages and skill levels, and they were able to perform on Steinway #L1037. West Music greatly appreciates the commitment of the University of Iowa piano department, Steinway, all of our area piano students and teachers--and of course the parents who are investing in the future of their children by giving them the opportunity to learn and play the piano. If you would like more information, please contact any of the piano specialists at your local West Music store.
