Think you can't rock if you work at a desk?? WRONG!

The FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands is a partnership between NAMM (the trade association of the international music products industry), FORTUNE Magazine, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

This event provides amateur, company-sponsored bands the opportunity to step out of the conference room and celebrate their passion for music. From 34 entries, 18 bands from across the U.S.A. were selected to participate in one of two semi-final regional competitions. Eight finalists will take the stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 2-3, 2009, for the opportunity to earn the title of best corporate band in America.(Event proceeds benefit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's educational programs.)

"Aeroroot" (band website) from Norway, Iowa, competed in the regional finals held in Los Angeles, CA, and became one of the eight finalists.

The band includes three current and former employees at Frontier Natural Products, a natural and organic product co-op. Together they formed "Aeroroot" five years ago during a lunch break. The band derives its name from the herb arrowroot, one of the natural products of Frontier.

The positive effects of making music have been shown to increase employee morale and productivity in the workplace. Listening to music or playing an instrument increases the presence of endorphins, allowing us to process information differently, enhance our memory, improve recall and retention of newly learned tasks. Who doesn't love that?!?

So, what are you doing for lunch today? Grab your co-workers and get it together! A good place to start is West Music's Weekend Warrior program:

I attended the finals of the Corporate Battle of the Bands Oct. 3 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and I must say that the level of talent was very impressive. The event further validated my belief that playing music is a defining experience that helps develop confidence, teamwork, creativity, and other skills that lead to success.

Kudos to NAMM, Fortune, and the other sponsors of this great event.
