Sing & Play & Learn Today! is West Music's own early childhood music and movement program! Designed for ages 3 months - 6 years and using activities created by our own educators and other nationally recognized authors, Sing & Play & Learn Today! helps your child experience the amazing musical and non-musical life skills outcomes of early childhood music and movement!
While activities vary by age range, they include singing, listening, vocal and rhythmic practice, dancing, bouncing, exploring simple percussion instruments, drumming, keyboards, and experiencing a wide variety of musical examples, including folk songs, classical music, multi-cultural songs, jazz, and more.
West Music is the largest supplier of General Music instruments in the country. Each class will include a fantastic assortment of recorded music and instruments to reinforce concepts explored in class, and give you a variety of new songs and ideas as you create incredible music at home!

Rebecca Foerstner is delighted to be the Director of Sing & Play & Learn Today at West Music! She has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and over 17 years experience as a preschool and kindergarten teacher. She has taught early childhood music and movement at West Music since 2001 and teaches Kindergarten at Montessori Children's Garden in North Liberty. Becky has been an active singer and instrumentalist throughout her life.
Melissa Blum is the former director of our program and has taught early childhood music and movement since 1999. She is a Vice President at West Music. Melissa has a degree in Music and K-12 Music Certification from the University of Iowa, and has completed graduate course work in Music Education/General Education. She has 23 years experience teaching music at the Pre-K – adult levels. Melissa is a clinician for Early Childhood Music and Movement educators and teaches the class Drumming Up the Fun! through the World Music Drumming Curriculum.
Angela Frantz has a degree in Early Childhood Education from UCLA. A singer/instrumentalist, she has over 19 years experience as a preschool classroom and music teacher and administrator, and continues to direct a daily educational playgroup in her home. Angela has been an early childhood music and movement educator for over eight years.
Natalie Landowski has multiple years of experience teaching music to children and is currently working on her doctorate in piano performance and pedagogy. Natalie is also a member of the Nancy Cree Keyboard Learning Center.
Heather Beck graduated in 2009 from Western Illinois University, with a bachelor in music education. She is currently working as a paraprofessional in the Moline School District and in her spare time, she teaches beginning piano lessons out of her home. Heather has been with the Quad City West Music's "Sing & Play & Learn" program since early 2013 and has loved every moment! Watching the children grow and develop new friendships, while learning music fundamentals, is a rewarding experience. Their enthusiasm to learn and their excitement when they figure something out is always a joy to experience.
Andrea Alert has a BM in Music from Western Michigan University and a MM in Viola Performance from the University of Northern Iowa. She currently performs with the Dubuque Symphony and Orchestra Iowa as a substitute violist. She is comfortable and open to teaching different types of styles, including classical and fiddle. She utilizes different teaching approaches that will best help the student.
Beth Korleski graduated with her degree in Business Management and Music from Luther College in May 2013. During the summer months when she wasn't in school, she worked as a summer camp counselor where she led music classes and performances. In addition to working at West Music at a Merchandise Manager for print music, piano, fretted instruments and music gifts, Beth is also active in the Chamber Singers of Iowa City, enjoys volunteering at the local Ronald McDonald house, likes to experiment with baking and enjoys running.
Jessica Palmer has been spreading music appreciation to children for years, and SPLT is a dream come true! She has taught music camps and programs at the Iowa Children's Museum for 6 years and recently completed a preschool music enrichment class at Willowwind School. She is a graduate from the University of Iowa with a degree in Music and is a practicing musician and musical director for community theaters in the Iowa City area.
Allison Chenoweth was born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa. After graduating high school she attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in both Music and Anthropology in 2002. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago and earned a Master of Arts degree in Humanities focusing on the field of ethnomusicology and studying the development of steel pan groups. Allison has been teaching piano with the Nancy Cree Keyboard Learning Centers since 2005.
