333 Reading Exercises
Choral Method Series
By Zoltan Kodaly
These exercises can be used at the beginner’s level in any teaching program. There are no dotted eighth notes, but has a variety of rhythms. There are many downward leaps in the melodies.
The tunes are written primarily in the singing range of D – B. There are no key signatures, but do is given. Four-fifths of the tunes do not go outside the 6-note compass. Pentatonic tunes usually cover a wider compass – there are some of two octaves.
Some exercises are presented as staff notation and some are in sol-fa with the rhythm having the letters (d for do, r for re, m for mi, etc.) underneath the notes.
