In this introductory unit, your students will discover 4 different styles of jazz (swing, bebop, Dixieland, jazz-rock), hear the sounds of jazz instruments and meet Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis-four great musicians who created and shaped this genre.

This kit includes an informative teacher's guide, a set of flashcards for review (1 reproducible styles card and one card each for each of the 4 styles and each of the 4 major musicians)and a CD with real musicians playing real instruments, not synthesized sequences.

Style By Numbers and Three in a Row are 2 fast-paced cooperative-learning/whole-group activities that are easy to teach and designed to reinforce the music, musicians and concepts presented.

The instrument identification in "Three in a Row" includes saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, acoustic piano, electric guitar, bass, drum set, electric pianos, synthesizer. There are 30 student cards with 8 of the 10 instruments pictured on each.
