Ordering: hear a sample piece of music, then arrange the parts of the music into the correct order. Level 1 has a melody line only; level 2 has melody and harmony; level 3 has chamber music with one type of instrument; and level 4 has chambermusic with multiple instruments.
Matching: in level 1, find the pieces of music that are the same (3 choices are given). Includes rhythmic drum patterns, scales, and small musical excerpts; most use only one instrument. Level 2 includes some chord progressions and longer samplesof music. Level 3 gives 4 choices; sometimes the same music is played with different instruments - you music find the two that match exactly. Level 4 gives you an example and 4 answer choices. Find the answer that is similar to the example but notthe same- the answer that is in the same style as the example but with different notes. Often one of the answer choices is the same as the example.
Comparing: define whether the two pieces played are the same or different. In level 1 both samples use the same instrument; level 2 gives longer samples, including some chords. Level 3 gives four answer choices and level 4 gives five answerchoices- in each, you must define how the second sample is different from the first. It may be higher, lower, faster, slower, upside-down, backwards, or the same.
Reading: practice identifying the written music that matches what you hear; divided into beginning and advanced sections. For beginning, level 1 has one bar and a single line of music, with quarter, half, and whole notes; level 2 uses treble andbass clef lines together; level 3 shows notation choices that are more similar to each other; and level 4 adds eighth notes and dotted quarter-eighth combinations. Advanced level 1 begins with one bar; the notation choices given are very similar(includes some chord progressions). Level 2 has two-bar samples; level 3 adds sixteenth notes, triplets, and up to 3-bar samples; level 4 uses many sixteenth notes.
