Our Perspective

As an early childhood teacher, the 8 inch rhythm sticks are perfect for my students little hands.  As an education consultant, I recommend the 12 inch as a better fit for elementary aged students.  Either size is the perfect tool for practicing many different rhythmic activities.  I also love that there is one ridged and one smooth stick per set making them easy for my young students to identify; we can also explore the different sounds that are made by the various textures.  -Jenny

Description

Introduce your music students to percussion with Basic Beat’s Rhythm Sticks. These 8” solid wood sticks are a great way to get kids to interact with songs. They can rub the smooth stick fast or slow up and down the rigid stick to create various sounds and rhythms. Their small size is perfect for small hands, and since they use a natural finish, there’s no need to worry about paint chipping.

Why did you choose this?
West Music Store
My old rhythm sticks (blue and red) were getting so old that the color was coming off when rubbing them together. I like the shorter size and slightly thicker diameter of these, and they have a better sound than my old ones.

Using these Rhythm Sticks in class since 2005 and they are still great! (just ordered more in 2012 so I could use in two classes at the same time).

The perfect stick for preschool.
Amy Haywood on May 23, 2014
I love these sticks! They're the perfect size for smaller hands, and if the little ones get a little wild with them, they're not so likely to hurt anyone as they would be with longer sticks. Very quality sticks. :)

Short 8" sticks are great for preschool aged children.

Wanted it for the kids at church to use during praise and worship time.

Most important is the affordable price. I like the shorter 8" sticks......makes it easy for little 4 year old hands to grasp and maneuver.
Andrea L on Jun 4, 2013
they are the most beautiful rhythm sticks for a fab price!
Valarie P on May 20, 2013
easy to use and nice sound

Great price, looks like good quality.
Kathleen L on Apr 30, 2013
These sticks are a great length for children to use. Longer sticks tend to become difficult for them to handle safely (they inadvertently hit others or themselves in in the head or elsewhere). These sticks are also a great quality and value. In the four years we have used these sticks for our pre-school music and movement class, we have never had an issue with them not holding up beautifully.

The other teachers I work with use these! I like the natural wood color. And, I like that they're one ribbed and one smooth in each pair. They're also the cheapest I've found!

Good time keeking.

I am already using a set of these rhythm sticks for my preschool music classes and I love them. They have a very nice sound and feel, and they are short enough that even my smaller preschoolers can handle them well. I originally bought these so that my youngest classes would have smaller sticks, but now I use these with all my classes and my other set of 10" rhythm sticks don't get used at all - I like these so much better! Right now I'm just buying more for when we need extras for programs.

I'm a preschool teacher. I feel that these 8 inches sticks are perfect for little hands.

These are a gift for my niece and her parents. You can't buy just one set. Model how to use these safely (our rule is sit with sticks). We've used these in Music Together classes and love the ridges on one stick while the other is smooth. Provides safer (no paint) and more versatility with ridges (rubbing). The short size is easier for younger music lovers to manipulate. A staple for beginning music explorers!

I have these in my classroom at school and really like the sound so I'm getting them for my grandchildren.
Sheryl M on Nov 26, 2012
I needed shorter rhythm sticks for my toddler groups.
Cynthia G on Nov 23, 2012
I like these sticks because they are a good value in a set with a fluted stick. Also, I prefer these shorter sticks to the 12" ones because children tend to turn the longer ones into swords and weapons, and it makes classroom management that much harder.
Kimberly N on Nov 20, 2012
These can sometimes have a "hollow" sound to them, but they are smooth to the touch and seem less likely to splinter than other brands.

Our First Graders are singing the Little Drummer Boy in our school Christmas Pageant. Our boys will keep the beat with these :)
Janie B on Nov 6, 2012
We are having a rhythm birthday party and these look like the perfect size for smaller hands. I liked that one of the sticks is ribbed allowing the kids to make different sounds. These were the only affordable rhythm sticks I found that were all natural taking away the worry of chipping paint.
Samantha M on Sep 26, 2012
the quality and price

We have many rhythm sticks which are painted and too long for toddlers & preschoolers. Hopefully this one will be the one!

Like the short variety for small people. No one will get stabbed in the classroom anymore and chewing is safer without any color coming off

These rhythms sticks are beloved by all ages! I need more of them as my class size expands. From babies to kindergarterners - even middle schoolers enjoy them. They're a nice length - not too long so the kids can't really hit each other or poke or do too much damage. (Not that we allow that, but you can't be everywhere at once!)
Chana R on May 31, 2012
used this at a Music Together class and thought it was very good quality.

I like it that these rhythm sticks are the exact same length, and a little smaller than most. They look like they will be great for my youngest students. I also like it that they do not have paint that will chip.

Do you offer a discount for purchasing 60 pairs? I teach at two schools.
A shopper on Jul 31, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I am sorry, but there is no additional price discount available on the rhythm sticks. If you have further questions, please contact us at service@westmusic.com.
are these sold individually or is it a set?
A shopper on Mar 28, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The rhythm sticks are sold in pairs - one smooth stick and one ridged stick per pair.
Can you sanitize these with a wipe? I had been considering the plastic kind by Rhythmix because you can put them in the dishwasher! But what about these?
A shopper on Dec 15, 2011
BEST ANSWER: They can be wiped down. However, it is possible over time that the finish may start to come off depending on how often it is done. It’s just inherent in wood products.
