Brummitt-Taylor Music Listening Supplement 1, CD 9
A Non-Directed Approach
By David Brummitt and Karen Taylor
Spiral-bound Book and CD
110 pages

This supplement to the Brummitt-Taylor Music Listening Program (item 802949) adds 22 selections to be incorporated into yearly rotations which are given in a new 3-year plan.

Seven new composers are presented: Canadians Michael Conway Baker and Harry Somers; American Samuel Barber: Spaniard Manuel de Falla; Russians Sergei Rachmaninoff and Peter Tchaikovsky; and Italian Ottorino Respighi. Ten of the featured compositions are from the 20th century.

The daily listening routine has been expanded to include juxtapositions of multiple compositions played within a single week. These are presented as opportunities for students to compare and contrast how composers work with musical ideas. Several extension ideas are also included, and 2 enrichment activities appear.
