Children's Songs from Afghanistan
Qu Qu Barg-e-Chinaar
Collected by Dr. Louise Pascale
Book and CD
32 pages, approx. 60 min. CD

Editor Louise Pascale was a Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan in the 60s. After discovering that elementary schools there did not have any music books, she and an Afghan musician, a Pashtu poet and an elementary teacher collected children's songs and put together a small songbook. She took this songbook to the schools and taught the songs and had the children make illustrations for the songs (which are shown in the book's introduction).

Today Louise has recreated the collection of Afghan children's songs vowing to return the songs to Afghan children. Over 10,000 copies of the songbook and recordings are now in elementary schools across Afghanistan.

This special English edition contains the English translation and transliteration for each song, informative liner notes, map and an accompanying CD with Canadian-Afghan children singing the songs.

Is "Ye Toop Doram" in this book? Is it the same as "Polka Dot Ball?"

Best Answer: No, Ye Toop Doram is not in this book. Polka Dot Ball is in the book but it is not the same song as Ye Toop Doram. However, this book offers a good collection of songs and chants.
