Christmas Carols for Bells
By Alan Hager
17 pages

17 Christmas carols for beginning handbell choirs. The melodies can be played with a 20-note chromatic set of bells (or tone chimes); the accompaniment chords require a 13-note chromatic set of bells. The book is written so that the accompaniment chords coordinate with Kidsplay color-coded handbells (items 200269 and 200270, each available separately) and color-coded chord cards (item 530061, available separately).

Each song shows the melody line and first verse of lyrics, with the chord letters above the staff. Most songs give at least one additional verse of lyrics. The difficulty level for the chords and for the melody of each song is given at the beginning of the book. By purchasing the color coded chord cards and Kidsplay color coded handbells, beginning choirs and ringers who don't read music can be easily taught the accompaniment chords for each song.

This book provides a perfect way to combine two levels of handbell choirs- have your more advanced ringers play the melody on a set of handbells or tone chimes, while your beginning choir rings the chords. Or have ringers play the chords and sing the melody. (Several other ideas are also given in the book.) Permission is granted for the purchaser to photocopy the melody parts only for use by the members of their handbell choir.
