Creating Artistry Through Movment and the Maturing Male Voice
Featuring the Varsity Ensemble of St. Mary's International School, Toyko, Japan
By Henry Leck and Randy Stenson
DVD and book
44 page book
DVD Duration: 1 hr. 16 min.
Middle School - High School

This instructional book and DVD Creating Artistry Through Movement and the Maturing Male Voice clearly demonstrate how movement while singing helps to harness the natural kinesthetic learning process in males. The DVD features the Varsity Ensemble of St. Mary's International School  in Tokyo, Japan. The group demonstrates all movement warm-ups and exercises to improve tone color, intonation, phrasing, articulation, special vocal effects, head voice and vocal agility. Through these exercises, each singer develops his own individualized shaping gesture. These gestures help the singers improve their musicality during rehearsals, build versatile voices and create expressiveness during performances. The middle school boys' choir is also shown in performance on the DVD.

Teachers and students will benefit from viewing the DVD.

The booklet follows the DVD chapters and shows the notated vocal warm-ups and exercises as well as various seating charts for rehearsal and performances. Additional instruction material and suggestions on male learning strategies are also given.
