There are lots of activities with variety for this age. The weekly lessons are organized by themes, e.g. September week one is Farm-Ducks and week two is Farm-Hens. In November week one is Fall and week two is Numbers. - Kathy

The Kindergarten curriculumbook contains over 200 activities designed to help children learn about the elements of music in an active way.

- lessons organized into a logical sequence
- a yearly plan categorizing objectives in five conceptual areas
- experiences in imitation, exploration, improvisation, and visualization
- holiday and seasonal activities incorporated into the teaching sequence
- activities that spark creativity and higher-level thinking skills
- a repertoire rich in folk literature, nursery rhymes & traditional singing games
- four formal assessments; two per semester
- a seating chart template, including space for assessment
- illustrations of all the charts and visuals used in each lesson

Kindergarten Objectives
Rhythm: Demonstrate pulse. Experience fast/slow. Demonstrate long/short. Experience short rhythm patterns through speech, body percusssion and unpitched instruments. Experience meter (2/4, 4/4, 6/8). Differentiate between sound/silence.

Melody: Develop a repertoire of songs (folk/seasonal/multicultural/patriotic). Establish proper vocal tone production. Differentiate between high/low. Experience SM melodies. Demonstrate up/down.

Harmony: Experience pulse against rhythm. Demonstrate proper mallet technique.

Form: Experinence same/different. Establish phrase. Explore time/space/shape/force in movement.

Timbre: Identify unpitched percussion. Explore dramatic play. Develop body awareness. Differentiate between vocal qualities (speak/sing/whisper/shout). Demonstrate loud/quiet.

I already had Game Plan for grades 1-3. This is a great book for an Orff classroom. It has many wonderful ideas.

My school won't be able to purchase the charts, visuals and digital resources right now. Can I still get a lot from the teacher's curriculum without it?

Best Answer: You don't need the charts and extra materials. You can make some of your own or modify with today's technology. I have used this as a guide for the past two years. It's not the only material I use, but I like it because it helps me to gauge what is age appropriate for Kinders.

Can this book be used by someone who is not a music teacher and does not have a formal music education? Just as an introduction to music in the home? Is it user friendly?

Best Answer: If you have a music background and are able to read basic rhythms and notes on a staff, then yes. If not, then no. It's meant to be a real music curriculum intent on teaching the basics of music, as opposed to an experiential experience.

What instruments are required for this curriculum?

Best Answer: Here is the answer from the book:

Lummi sticks or 8” rhythm sticks (enough for all), a few frog rasps (optional), a few guiros, vibraslap, frame drums (several) and some soft mallets to play them, ocean drum (optional), egg shakers for all, a few maracas, a few finger cymbals, wood blocks (4 or 5 would be ideal), some jingle bells, a few triangles, a few tambourines, 2 cowbells, glockenspiels (4 or 5 would be ideal, alto and soprano), and a tubano or conga drum. Piano or guitar,a bass xylophone, and a soprano xylophone for the teacher to play with the students are recommended. Various other unpitched percussion would be nice to have.

How would this work with 40-50 children in one class?
