I already have the Yamaha soprano /descant recorder but I need some more and wondered if the pitch on the West version of soprano recorder would sound the same as the Yamaha version? I don't want to buy them and realize that they are a slight off in pitch.
Missy on Apr 21, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, I believe they will match g quite nicely. I use these recorders exclusively when I teach recorders and we use recorder karate where the students are required to play with the accompaniment. Hope this helps. Anna Beth

I know that the quality of the Yamaha 3-part recorders is very high. Do the West Music WM2400 3 piece recorder w/bag, match in quality?
Susan S on Aug 28, 2014
Best Answer: They are just a very small step down from the Yamaha. If the Yamaha is a 10, this is a 9. The tone is a little bit less solid, though most likely not noticeable by anyone who isn't a musician. They also do tend to squeak a little bit easier than the Yamaha, but again, only just very slightly. I happily made the switch from Yamaha to the West Music recorder for my music program. The savings is definitely worth the tiny drop in quality for me.

I bought the Harmony 1 piece recorder for my class in September. Will these match in pitch with them? The Harmony recorders are slightly sharp (446)
Jamie L on Jan 27, 2015
Best Answer: These recorders will not match the Harmony recorders that are slightly sharp. This was an issue we had this fall and they were not intended to be sharp. They are now listed as a b-stock item:

What is the sound compaired to the the "white" Yamaha recorders? Is it even close?
A shopper on Mar 14, 2013
Best Answer: I can't compare it directly, but it is a quality instrument at a great price. I used it for 3rd grade recorders last year and ordered another set this year. Very similar to Angel and Aulos.

I have always used Yamaha recorders but I teach 400 5th graders and want to buy a large number of recorders to have one here for each of my students. Have you used these along with Yamaha? I'm worried that the mix of the two brands will be a bit different tuning-wise.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

How do these compare to the Yamaha Recorder? I have generally found the Yamaha is less squeaky than other recorders.

How is the bag?
A shopper on Feb 21, 2013
Best Answer: The bag is made of cloth with a string to close it. I often cut the strings off because students pull them tight, tie knots in them and otherwise create difficulties. I like the cloth bags because I think they help the recorders quickly dry out after playing in class.

I have used these inexpensive recorders from West for years. A great deal.
