Lessons are constructed so one teacher can guidelessons in all disciplines. Each unit addresses the theme through interwoven lessons in music, movement, visual art, and word languages. Each language is taught with integrity, and common threads between them are deeply explored to create amultidimensional teaching and learning process (the critical feature is the process - each unit is simply a model). Unit 1: Discovering the Common Element.

Unit 2: Identifying High, Middle, & Low.
Music: High & Low Dance by Linda Worsley (hear high, middle, & low instruments).
Visual Art: Deer in the Forest 1 by Fraz Marc (background & characters; top, middle, &bottom).
Movement: High & Low Dance (high-, mid-, low-, and non-locomotor).
Language Arts: Hop Jump (short vowels; auditory discrimination; top, middle, & bottom of a page).

Unit 3: Exploring Part & Whole.
Music: The Wild Horseman by Robert Schumann (phrases-part of whole piece; steady beat).
Visual Art: Battle Dance - mural by Diego Rivera (character, setting, problem).
Movement: The Wild Horseman (gallop, phrases).
Language Arts: Swimmy (story parts, character, setting, blending [start], parts of a word).

Unit 4: Learning Reading Strategies.
Music: Self & Pairs by Linda Worley (1 & 2 melodic lines, basic rhythms).
Visual Arts: Boys in a Pasture by Winslow Homer (viewing strategies, pair drawing-pastel).
Movement: Self & Pairs(walk, skip, jog, skate alone or in pairs).
Language Arts: My New Boy (self & pairs, consonant pairs, letter teams).

Unit 5: Zooming In on an Idea.
Music: City Scene by Linda Worley (recurring A theme, different episodes).
Visual Art: Tar Beach 2 - collage by Faith Ringgold (related literature: Tar Beach, Zoom).
Movement: City Scene (sequencingmovements, small group movement).
Language Arts: Mortimer (recurring theme, repetition, rhyming words, word chunks).

Unit 6: Sequencing.
Music: Echoes by Linda Worley (exact imitation, AB form, visually follow image).
Visual Art: From the Lake #1 - mobile by Georgia O'Keefe (value - tints & shades).
Movement: Echoes (echo movement, angular &flowing).
Language Arts: Just Like Daddy (story sequence, word endings), Through Grandpa's Eyes (descriptive language).

Unit 7: Blending.
Music: Air by J.S. Bach (individual beats, blended beats into phrases, tracking quarter notes).
Visual Art: 2 Dancers on a Stage by Edgar Degas (blending colors, repetition - template).
Movement: Air (pathways, turning,phrases, blending).
Language Arts: How the Sky's Housekeeper Wore Her Scarves (blending sounds, phrases, ideas for meaning).

Unit 8: Building.
Music: In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edward Grieg (reading rhythms: quarter, 2 eighths, rest; building by repetition).
Visual Art: Tree with Crows - landscape by Casper David Friedrich (how environment affectsgrowing things, untraditional tools & techniques).
Movement: In the Hall of the Mountain King (building from small to large movement).
Language Arts: When the Wind Bears Go Dancing (rhyming words, vowel pairs, stories that grow and build).  

Unit 9: Exploring Character.
Music: This Little Light of Mine (instrumental) - spiritual, arr. Worley (1, 2, and 4 melodies).
Visual Art: Sunflowers by Christian Rolfs (self & others, nontraditional tools).
Movement: This Little Light of Mine (self, pairs, fours; creating a dance).
Language Arts: Too Noisy - rebus version (develop characters through drama, read for meaning).
