Series of children's songs and teacher lessons sequentially organized to teach the basics of pitch and rhythm through singing and games for elementary students. Uses 20 American folk and well-known children's songs. Teacher lessons are easy to follow and do not require previous training in Kodály methodology. Also included are reproducible singer sheets and activities. Each lesson gives the focus, resources (CD track or Activity), teaching suggestions, assessment and extension ideas. Includes performance/accompaniment CD (item 851461).

  • Chatter with the Angels (introduce low so)
  • Old Brass Wagon (present 16th notes, practice low la and low so)
  • Canoe Song (present syncopa, singing and playing an ostinato)
  • Alabama Gal (practice syncopa, draw low la and low so on staff)
  • Love Somebody (present fa, practice reading rhythms)
  • Tideo (review 16th notes, present high do)
  • The Birch Tree (introduce low ti, sing in canon)
  • O How Lovely Is the Evening (prepare 3/4 meter, read do re mi fa so la)
  • Music Alone Shall Live (present 3/4 meter, prepare dotted-quarter and eighth note pattern)
  • Cape Cod Girls (present dotted-quarter and eighth notes)
  • Viva la Musica (practice reading dotted-quarter and eighth note patterns)
  • Land of the Silver Birch (create an ostinato, introduce 1 eighth and 2 sixteenth notes)
  • Laughing Singing (sing in canon, introduce 2 sixteenths and 1 eighth note)
