LP Granite Blocks are the modern version of the ancient Chinese temple blocks. Crafted from Jenigor, LP's exclusive plastic formulation, LP Granite Blocks are a set of five virtually indestructible temple blocks that are tuned to match the pitch of traditional Chinese temple blocks. The patented set comes with a steel mounting bracket that can attach to any stand from 3/8" to 1" in diameter. It can be adjusted to accommodate two different configurations: the compact over/under set up or the orchestral, five-across style. LP Granite Block Mallets are included.
How is the sound of these temple blocks? We are interested in using them as part of classroom ensemble work with Chinese instruments and Orff xylophones, including Luogho rhythms and some Chinese folk song settings.
Best Answer:The tone quality is much better than what you would expect if you just think "plastic", even suitable for college or professional ensemble work when used appropriately. But (and this might not come off in a video), they are loud. They speak best when played with a harder mallet, and are capable of extreme volume. They could certainly obliterate Orff percussion, but maybe with some searching you could find a softer mallet that gives a decent tone from them.
