Description

Hand-forged from iron, these African Castanets produce clear, cutting, high-pitched tones. The Firikyiwa is placed on the middle finger and struck with an iron ring worn around the thumb. Great fun to play, and is the perfect instrument for leading accurate rhythms in a large group!

Learned about the frikywa at a workshop as another tool to keep the beat and to get kids attention.

I have bought these myself, but it's nice to have several. Perfect for World Music Drumming "timeline!"

A workshop presenter used one to keep the beat, and it was great! Loud enough and easy to play with one hand, and a curiosity for the kids - plus an intriguing name to boot!
Artie Almeida used one at a workshop and it was exactly what I needed! Can't wait to use it in my classroom.

Saw this at an in-service where the conductor was able to help students maintain the beat yet follow directors cues.

I saw this item at a recent workshop. it was used by the presenter and was great for keeping particpants hearing the steady beat and staying together even over the sounds of other instruments playing. Although it would not be something to use all the time, it was a great way to quickly get the group to find and play the steady beats together in a very short time.
