Purposeful Pathways Book 1: Possibilities for the Music Classroom
By Roger Sams and Beth Ann Hepburn
Spiral-bound Book and CD-ROM

The book presents an eclectic approach for active music learning. Strategies from Dalcroze, Kodaly and Orff are incorporated in a developmental sequence offering elementary music educators diverse choices for how to present folk song material, including lessons in singing, literacy, movement, improvisation, composition and instrumental ensemble. The flexible design makes this resource adaptable to teachers of all levels of experience and in many teaching situations.

Curricular materials in Book 1 are organized by rhythmic and melodic concepts: steady beat, quarter note, two eighth notes, quarter rest, sol, mi, la and do.

A CD-ROM of PDF files of hands-on manipulatives to be reproduced for classroom use is included.
A CD-ROM of SMART board visuals is available separately, part# 530632.

What grade level/s are Book 1 and 2 appropriate for?
D. Ross on Aug 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Book 1 is intended for approximately kindergarten through second grade learners, and Book 2 is intended for second through fourth grade learners.
If you could only get 1 of the books, Pathway 1 or pathway 2, which one is the best?
Ginny F on Aug 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Depends on the age and knowledge of your students! You can find some lessons plans from each of the books at the teachingwithorff website to see which might be the better fit for you.
does this curriculum have assessments built in? and does it come in Promethean?
Sarah A on May 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: PP is a good curriculum resource.

At this time, the optional CD-ROMs do not have all Promethean Activinspire files. The one that corresponds to Book 3 does have Promethean files.

There are no labeled “assessments” but there are opportunities for improvisation and composition in most lessons.
