Recorders without Borders
By Nina Stern
19 pages

Twelve beginning recorder pieces from around the world using only three notes (B, A, G) and percussion. All of the pieces were inspired by traditional tunes and rhythms the composer has come across during her own musical travels.

These pieces are intended for children just beginning the recorder. The addition of percussion enlivens the pieces. The arrangements have been made in such a way that all students can be contributing members of the ensemble. Even if students have mastered only one note, or one simple rhythm, there is a place for them in the group and the ensemble would not be complete without them.

Colleague has it. I would have liked to have all my Chorus kids get it, but it's too expensive for that and there's no package deal with a recorder purchase. I got it for myself instead.

Nina Stern did a workshop for the LA Orff Chapter, and I loved the accessibility of these arrangements, plus much more interesting than other BAG recorder pieces.
