Our Perspective

The Bass Buffalo Drum is a favorite of mine because of its deep rich bass tone. It's a beautiful sound! This drum looks sharp with the all black frame and head. It is great in a classroom setting due to the cross rope handle which makes it good for teacher demonstration. - Jeanna

The Buffalo Bahia black earth drum is equipped with a rope handle and a Bahia Bass synthetic drumhead which produces a pure soothing bass tone when struck with the soft mallet included.

I love the sound of this drum! I have found the mallet that comes with it doesn't do it justice. Something with a harder tip really brings out the depth of this drum.

how do you use this drum in music therapy? I work with dementia, geriatrics, vent patients in sleep states.

Best Answer: Hi there,
I am a massage therapist and energy worker/facilitator. I have been incorporating drumming in every session for about the last year. I have a few different drums that I interchange as I am guided to do. Each of the drums has a different tone/sound, which resonates with different chakras (parts energy centers of the body). Drumming is s representation of the heartbeat of mother earth and our heart beat. So, when someone (can also be plants, animals etc) listens to the drumming or has it in there space, I have found that within 10-12 min they are in a different state of consciousness and much healing/ shifting can take place.
Often the drum is played at a regular beat however, sometimes it is like a song comes through that contains variations of speed and depth of each beat.
The people that you have mentioned as clients often require much healing and shifting as they are beings that have lived different generations-ones of many issues. From my experience, many have had challenging childhoods as far as being loved, knowing what love is, acceptance etc. So, in my opinion drumming can assist in the process of shifting and healing so that perhaps in their days to come and lifetimes to come life will be different -more of peace, love and joy.....as the heart only knows love. It is the brain that creates all other emotions.
I would definitely recommend drumming. Having more that 1 would be an asset. The ocean drum is nice too.

Hope that this may provide you with some guidance.
Blessings of love, light and rainbows,

I use tons of Remo products, and generally find them outstanding. I was a little disappointed in the random high pitches that combine with the fundamental bass tone of the 16" buffalo drum. I never got any of those with their sound shapes or pre-tuned hand drums. Has anyone noticed this? Any retro-fixes to tame the ringing? Thanks.

Best Answer: Every Native style frame drum I own, have played, and experienced, from synthetic heads to natural skin heads have this quality of sound to them...a slight high ring with the deep drone. Of course, some vary with how much of the high tone is experienced. I take it as part of the style of drum. This, I have found, is a natural sound quality these drums carry. I have this remo drum, as well as a 14" synthetic head as well. I find them very authentic to the style and what this drum is traditionally used for. Of course, playing it closer to the frame edge will also give you a higher tone. I think the synthetic heads tend to give you more of a high ring than skin heads, but the synthetic are much better for travel and climate changes. Hope this helps.

What is the good way to take care of the surface of the drum? How should I clean it?
Yumi S on Mar 30, 2012
Best Answer: I believe we were told at the HealthRhythms training to use mild detergent and water. Do NOT use anything with alcohol in it. It is made from recycled plastic so may be more durable than one would think.

It is a WONDERFUL drum. Many have used it for chakra therapy. Enjoy!

Is a synthetic drumhead a quality drumhead?

A shopper on May 1, 2012
Best Answer: Synthetic heads have a few advantages over natural skin heads. According to the website www.ehow.com, "They're ubiquitous, convenient, inexpensive, consistent, low maintenance and weatherproof."

Nothing will give you exactly the same sound as a skin head, but the plastic heads, especially the Bahia heads, provide a good quality sound.
