Rockin' the Radio
Pop Arrangements and Teaching Strategies for Orff Instruments
By Mari Schay
Book and Enhanced CD
51 pages
Grades 4 - 9

Have you ever wanted to include some pop music in your music classroom? Here you have songs like Katy Perry's "Roar," the Beatles' "She Loves You," and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" with age-appropriate, skill-building arrangements for Orff barred instruments and classroom percussion.

The arrangements are divided into two sections: Radio Hits and Old Time Favorites. Radio Hits are the songs students will probably know from the radio, either their favorite stations or their parents' or grandparents' stations. Old Time Favorites are mostly spirituals and folk songs.

As you teach these ensemble arrangements, you'll reinforce rhythmic concepts, note reading, playing techniques, and more. Mari Schay takes you through a typical lesson sequence that addresses the old and new NAfME National Standards. These arrangements and lessons are appropriate for Orff ensembles or general music classes.

The Enhanced CD includes full performance demonstrations of all ten songs, as well as printable/projectable instrument parts.
