Singing Fun for Little Ones
Seasonal activities and sight-reading for the music class
By Cheryl Lavender
Book and CD
Grades K - 2
40 pages

Created and field-tested for grades K-2, this book/CD features 24 original songs and sight-reading pieces to delight and challenge developing musicians. The book includes warm-ups, holiday celebrations, seasonal songs, high/low pitch games, language arts connections with syllables and rhymes, movement and dramatizations, piano finger plays and even a song to wrap up a successful school year.

Of special interest are 12 monthly, developmentally-sequenced sight-reading pieces designed to build music literacy skills with patterns of ta, ti-ti, rest, so-mi, so-mi-la and mi-re-do. Songs have the melody notated with chords. Teaching tips are provided for each piece and sight-reading pages are reproducible for classroom use. The CD includes both full performance (treble voices) and accompaniment tracks, as well as instrumental backup tracks for the sight-reading pieces.
