Our Perspective

The second book in the series adds low E right away to B, A, and G, and later adds low D. Pluses are the workbook format, good song selection, and steadily increasing difficulty. - Kathy

Ho Ho Watanay Book 2
The Windsongs Series
For Recorder, Orff or Kodaly Programs
By Berthe Kulich and Joe Berarducci
Book
36 pages

Progressive method for soprano recorder - for individual or classroom instruction. This is the second in a sequential series of six books leading from the first steps in recorder playing to musical literacy and the threshold of consort playing. Each book in the series serves as a workbook as there are tasks and exercises for the children to complete.

Each book builds upon the last, adding the notes in a logical sequence. The series uses sol-fa syllables (mi re do in Book 1) and rhythm syllables (ta and ti ti in Book 1) and leads to reading staff notation. There are places for students to draw notes and other written activities. A combination of both English and French songs which draw on the rich heritage of Canadian folk songs are used.

For ages 6 to 12.

Range of notes: B-A-G; adds E-D.

Engaging melodies, incremental increase in difficulty, one or two songs per page give the students a sense of accomplishment, good coloring book as well for younger students. (2nd and 3rd grade)

I teach recorder to homeschool children and have used this series for several years.

I used this series when I taught elementary school and really liked it. I have been looking for it for my private studio for a while. I started the Grade 2 (age 7) in Book 1 and went right through to book 6 by the time they were in Grade 6. Great series!
