Zimma-Rimba Book 1
A Beginning African Marimba Method (for Orff Instruments or Zimbabwean Marimbas)
By Jeremy Phillips and Mary Carla Whitaker
Book and CD
82 pages

The purpose of the book is to provide an easy-to-follow teaching process and sequence of pieces that any musician can use to get started with African marimba ensembles in the elementary classroom or other music instruction environments. The nine pieces are original compositions sequenced according to difficulty and each includes a field-tested, how-to teaching process.

Zimma-Rimba Book 1 gives general instructions for teaching process, rehearsal techniques, mallet technique and large class sizes. The specific teaching process for each piece includes a skills focus, pre-teaching activities to both prepare students for success and reinforce music objectives, rehearsal techniques and final performance information.

A student recorded audio CD of each piece of music on Orff instruments is included.

Use this book to supplement music classes, add lively, up-beat repertoire to performing groups such as an Orff Ensemble or World Drumming Ensemble or may be used to create a Zimbabwean Marimba Performance Ensemble.

For grades 4 and up.
