Burung Kakatua is one song in the engaging and innovative Musicmap series. In this series, pictures and patterns are used to map the path of a musical melody, providing a fun and effective way for young children to learn pre-reading musical notation. In the first half of each book, illustrations have the lyrics printed on the page. In the second half of each book, no words are provided; instead, the pictures map the contour of the melody, resulting in the shape of the Musicmap. This versatile series works well in many educational setting, from elementary schools to day cares to group lessons, and is aimed at ages 2 - 7.
Each melody is notated on the staff with lyrics in the back of the book. Phonetic syllables in the back of the book will aid in pronunciation.
The enclosed audio CD has tracks with a child's voice singing each of the songs accompanied by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. After a bridge, the child sings in a different language (depending on the song) with the orchestra. These different presentations promote the art of active listening, the basis of the Musicmap series.
