Traditionally used for rhythmic patterns in African and Latin American music, claves produce bright clicking sounds that range from strong in tone to a lighter feel depending on their construction. Made out of various materials including natural woods like birch, rosewood, padouk, and white wood, as well as synthetics like fiberglass, claves produce a slightly different sound depending on its construction. Each set comes with two claves, one for holding (the female) and one for striking (the male), and some even include a hallowed-out center to create a broader more open tone.
